We had an awful experience here thanks to the oh so lovely staff. It was a perfect example of the profiling that happens a lot for people between their 20s-30s, getting an automatic negative bias towards us because of our age group. From the second the 8 of us checked in, all respectable young adults with responsibilities, there were issues. 20 minutes before quiet time (10pm) we had a sheriff called on us to tell us to keep the noise down and not to swear. We weren't loud at all, but instead all sitting around a fire minding our own bussiness talking quietly. Following the first incident me and my girlfriend went to bed because we felt we couldn't even talk anymore. The second night at 430pm we had a group of park rangers came to talk to us about the wood we had brought in ourselves. Shortly after two sherrif cars pulled in and pulled aside the park rangers to talk about giving us a nice $150 fine because this was are "second strike". The sherrif, who clearly didn't want us there, made it clear that it's normally two strikes and we are out but was being nice by giving us one more chance. Mind you, when they came to our site we were in the midst of grilling some chicken, minding our own bussiness, being quiet, and playing with the 2 kids of our friends. We were doing nothing wrong. They searched around our area, asked if we were all legally 21, and even had police dogs in the car that we expected them to use just because the entire situation was damned if we do damned if we don't. The old lady running the camp definitely was the one that called the cops on us both times. She would act super sweet to our faces, while simultaneously complaining about every single visitor that came in to check in her campground. She was just a very negative, two faced, snoopy old lady that obviously needs to hand over the job to someone who understands that camping is something that every age group is allowed to participate in and because of her and the unnecessary complaints of whatever it was that we were doing so horribly wrong was completely unfair it ruined the camping trip for all of us. We will never be back to support Blackcherry Crossing Campground and we hope this serves as a warning to other young adults that probably won't be respected either. As I said, we weren't a group of trouble makers. Just a group of young professionals trying to camp for the weekend with a few beers, and we were still pegged a nuisance. Me and my girlfriend paid for two nights and only stayed for one. What an awful, awful time.

It's fairly typical of campgrounds in the area--hand pump well water and composting toilets. As a bonus, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. When we were slow getting up in the morning, they came around and asked if we'd like to stay another day. It's quite an improvement on the usual threats of fees for late departure.

Great spot

Beautiful setting along the Kancamagus Highway. Some of the sites are a little too close to the road, but they are spacious and reasonably private. There are no hook-ups or amenities other than table and fire pit, but its an ideal setting for "dry camping". The campground is built on the site of an old CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) camp. There are signs with information located here and there, that show/tell about the now-demolished camp. We enjoyed our stay and will return again.

Great camping site, good location
